One of the things that coaches using the cards have discovered is that the cards arrouse peoples’ curiosity. Especially when they have been playing with the cards by themselves in a public place such as a cafe, or on a train. One coach reports -
I was excited by the cards as I was looking for a way to coach myself as I travelled and I purchased a pack. Then a funny thing seemed to happen. Wherever I sat down to play with the cards and coach myself, people nearby would ask “what are they?” and “can I have a go?”
You will attract the attention of a number of people, those that approach you to ask what you are doing are more than likely open to new experiences, curious and willing to explore. It becomes very simple to engage them in a conversation and as you explain what you are doing give them a short coaching session.
When I demonstrate the cards to someone I usually get them to pick an issue where it would be really useful to get some more clarity, step back from it and gain a new perspective (because this is what laying out the cards usually does for someone - you might as well stack the deck in your favour.)
Now its up to you to introduce yourself, tell them about who you are and what you do for people. For example, “I like to work with people that are open to new experiences, curious and willing to explore…”
As a coach you’ll know what to do.
